Being out of work for an extended period can feel isolating and discouraging, but support is available in many forms—it all starts with taking that first step. Every effort toward change creates momentum, and no resource is too small when navigating a transition. While this list isn’t exhaustive, it’s here to inspire motivation, creativity, and hope as you move forward into a new chapter of possibility. 


Government Assistance

  • Unemployment - if you had W2 work in the last 18 months, you are most likely eligible for Unemployment Insurance payments. 
  • Food Assistance - every county has different qualifications, but you may be surprised to learn you qualify for temporary support
  • Housing Assistance - similarly, looking into rent or mortgage support can offer stress relief when income is slow

Non-profits and public programs

  • Entertainment Fund - available to everyone in the creative industry. They give grants and offer career counseling.
  • Public Library (LA, NYC, ATL, CO) - many municipalities have job search experts and support organizations 
  • Chamber of Commerce (LA, NYC, ATL, CO) - employment is a focus for local economy groups, look here for small business opportunities, market trends, networking events, and job seeking advice for all backgrounds
  • Food Banks - there are so many wonderful programs that have no-proof-needed grocery giveaways

Gig Work

  • Uber - driving passengers, grocery shopping, or delivery orders! 
  • Rover - walk dogs, pet cats, feed hamsters! 
  • Ipsos iSay - online research community where members get rewarded for insight
  • Upwork - digital marketplace for freelancers

Budgeting

  • Mint - Reviewing transactions, monitoring your spending and tracking your net worth
  • Quicken - personal finance dashboard to help with saving, recurring subscriptions and living expenses 
  • Acorn - educational investment with small savings goals and spend tracking
